The old brick-arched bridge is deemed insufficiently strong to risk leaving as is, so a 600-ml twin-wall pipe is laid through it. The blockwork is recessed to allow space for stonework to be built around the pipe end and on up to form a new bridge parapet.

Two days later, the new pipe end is embedded in concrete, the new stone bridge wall is taking shape in the blockwork recess...

...a temporary tarmac roadway has been laid across part of the new concreted-in culvert, and the stream is now being pumped under the old bridge.
