An Old Postcard Tale

The latest addition [April 2016] to the Harberton village website old image collection comes courtesy of Brian & Brenda. Our thanks to them. It is a splendid view of Dundridge Gardens in their heyday, a Gay Series postcard. Judging from the Edward VII stamp on the card, I’m assuming it was sent from the village prior to 1911, although the year is not visible on the postmark which shows 'MR 16', which I understand to mean March 16th. The right-hand additional image in the lower row below shows a postmark from a different card, with the date clearly visible - March 16th (coincidentally), 1906.

Interestingly there are two more cards in the collection, sent by the same person 'Hilda' from Harberton to the same person in Devonport, the centre one of the Church House Inn below postmarked 1912 (note the change of monarch on the stamp to George V), and the right-hand one in 1915 (a card originating from Lionel showing Luscombe Cross). Also note the interesting way the message is written on the two earlier cards. Was this perhaps intended to stop the postman reading the card?
