January at the Bicton Inn, Exmouth

Thursday 2nd January 8.30pm
Bicton Folk Session
Enjoy an evening of lively, foot-tapping music when local musicians get together for an open acoustic session featuring accordions, violins, guitars, banjos, mandolins, pipes, bodhrans etc. Anyone can come and join in, lead a tune or just enjoy listening to the amazing sound created by the performers. The session usually includes lots of jigs, reels, polkas, airs and shanties, but anything can happen!

Friday 3rd January 9pm
Sara Corser and Dave Ward
Two of the Bictonís favourites bring you an afternoon of popular songs covering a wide range of musical genres from folk to rock, reggae to pop. Saraís powerful voice is perfectly complimented by Daveís rousing guitar and vocals when the duo put their unique twist on some all time favourites from the 60s to the present day.

Reefs of Moonshine
Enjoy some very chilled music in the company of acoustic duo Reefs of Moonshine. Lisaís angelic voice is beautifully complemented by Nickís intricate guitar playing, creating a very polished sound. The duo will perform their own arrangements of popular melodic songs....drawn from the worlds of folk, country and soul music.

Bradley the Busker
Brilliant singer/songwriter is guaranteed to hold you spellbound with his dynamic vocals and elaborate guitar playing. Bradley creates a unique sound when he performs his own thought provoking songs with the essences of James Taylor or Ed Sheeran and the rhythmic qualities of Susan Vega.

Open Mic Night
An evening of music from anyone who would like to come along and perform in this relaxed atmosphere. The monthly event has so far included a wide range of musical genres and given exposure to some very talented musicians, poets and singers. If you have a musical talent, you donít have to book a place, just come along and play.

Saturday 11th January 5pm
Graham Butterfield
This amazing guitarist was inspired by artists such as Lead Belly, Woody Guthrie, Alan Lomax and Burl Ives, He has been playing guitar since childhood and by the age of fifteen was doing floor spots at London's folk clubs. He went on to make regular appearances on Terry Wogan's radio show, BBC Radio 1, and BBC television, including 'Pebble Mill At One'. Today Graham will be playing a wide selection of music from unaccompanied traditional ballads to London music hall, English folk to American country blues.

Sunday 12th January 5pm
Tim Royce and Steve Songi
Acoustic guitar & vocals plus double bass - country, folk, blues and ballads - mellow to rocking. Tim and Steve stamp their own unique sound onto a huge repertoire ranging from Elvis to Elton, James Taylor to Jimi, Simon & Garfunkel to the Stones, Nick Drake to Dylan, and loads more too numerous to fit in here... Why be anywhere else?

Folk and Indie Open Night
Becky Brookes hosts her regular monthly evening of eclectic acoustic folk, country and indie music featuring a varied selection of singers and players. There will be some session playing, solo performances, poetry, shanty singing and who knows what else! If you sing or play you are welcome to take part.

Friday 17th January 9pm
Hello Vera and Guests
Livvy Hylton-Smith and Bob King will be opening their songbook of 20th century classics, with songs like weíll meet Again, A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square, Cry me a River, to contemporary pieces by artists such as Gloria Gaynor, Duffy and Amy Winehouse. Livvyís sensational voice combines perfectly with Bobís intricate jazz guitar playing to bring a new twist to all time favourites. The duo will be joined by some of their talented musical friends.

Rainy Day Woman
Donít miss this amazing Exmouth based folk duo. Rainy Day Womanís music is bright, light and effortlessly gorgeous. Hannah and Gabriel draw their inspiration from a wealth of alternative country, folk and bluegrass to create a sparse, evocative and unhurried, music with a magical quality.

Bicton Folk Night
Shanty man Derek Brooks invites you to a traditional folk night, when a varied selection of singers, musicians and poets perform individually and as a group. If you sing or play why not come along and join in the session? Otherwise enjoy listening to a selection of lively traditional acoustic music.

Saturday 25th January 8pm
Burns Night Celebration
Exmouth Shanty Man Derek Brooks hosts a celebration of the great Scottish Bard, who was born 461 years ago today. The evening will commence with a marching piper in traditional Scottish dress playing some rousing highland airs. The haggis will be addressed and you will be able to enjoy a sample of the Celtic delicacy served with neeps and tatties. The fabulous Balcony Band will play a selection of traditional Scottish muisc and Exmouth Poet David Burke will read a selection of Burnsí work, including some of his more amusing creations. If you sing, play or would like to recite a poem do come and join in.

The Boys from Melbounre Street
Colin Wilson, Dave Eustace and Keith Hunter are The Boys from Melbourne Street. The 3 Piece acoustic band perform brilliant original material much of which features on the bands 3 highly successful albums.
