May events at the Bicton Inn, Exmouth

Thursday 2nd May 8.30pm Bicton Folk Session
Enjoy an evening of lively, foot-tapping music when local musicians get together for an open acoustic session featuring accordions, violins, guitars, banjos, mandolins, pipes, bodhrans etc. Anyone can come and join in, lead a tune or just enjoy listening to the amazing sound created by the performers. The session usually includes lots of jigs, reels, polkas, airs and shanties, but anything can happen!

Saturday 4th May 5pm Telstar
Telstar are a vibrant, young Exmouth band featuring Leah Whatmore Ė vocals and bass, Harry Whatmore Ė guitar and vocals and Joseph Gorfin Ė drums and vocals. Today they will be performing an unplugged session which will include highly original versions of songs by Muse, Wolf Alice, Royal Blood, Foo Fighters, The Stone Roses, Oasis, The Who, Kings Of Leon along with some of their own amazing material.

Sunday 5th May 5pm Nigel Challis
Nigel is a highly accomplished guitarist and a master of country/folk finger style. He has performed at numerous festivals and venues throughout the South West to rapturous applause. Today Nigel will be performing a selection of popular songs including country, folk, and blues classics.

Thursday 9th May 8.30pm Open Mic
An evening of music from anyone who would like to come along and perform in this relaxed atmosphere. The monthly event has so far included a wide range of musical genres and given exposure to some very talented musicians, poets and singers. If you have a musical talent, you donít have to book a place, just come along and play.

Saturday 11th May 5pm Guy Somerfield
An afternoon featuring an eclectic mixture of music from Exmouthís favourite troubadour. Singer/songwriter Guy Somerfield again delivers his very polished performance of songs with an original twist, ranging from gentle folk to pulsing rock and everything in-between. He will also be playing some of his own enchanting songs.

Sunday 12th May 5pm Fallen Cedars
Rooted on the edge of Dartmoor, Fallen Cedars feature a diverse range of musical backgrounds and creative skills. Like the seasons, their music is at times stripped bare, intimate, delicate, acoustic and at others, driving, soaring, playful and engaging. Fallen Cedarís influences range from folk to blues to latin, blending styles and genres into their own unique mix of song and storytelling.

Sunday 12th May 8pm Exmouth Irish Session
Irish musician Fanchea McKinley invites you to a evening of lively and evocative music from the Emerald Isle when she hosts a session featuring singers and musicians from all over Devon. If you sing or play, come and join in. All abilities are welcome. Itís a great night to meet up with people with Irish roots too.

Thursday 16th May 8.30pm Folk and Indie Open Night
An open session featuring acoustic music performed by anyone who would like to come along to sing or play. Hosted by Exmouthís favourite balladeer Becky Brooks, anyone can join in the fun, perform solo or as part of the group. All abilities welcome

Friday 17th May 8pm Laurie Ward, John McLoughlin & Friends
A fantastic double bill featuring multi-instrumentalist John McLoughlin and popular sing/songwriter Laurie Ward. The pair will be joined by guest musicians to bring you an evening of everything from folk and pop classics to anthemic rock and reggae along with some amazing originals.

Saturday 18th May 8pm Mathew McGhie
Not to be missed; all the way from Edinburgh, Corby born singer/songwriter Mathew McGhie is an impressive acoustic indie, folk and experimental rock musician. His highly evocative songs have been described as sounding like a mix of Jake Bugg, Neil Young & Noel Gallagher. Mathew is currently on a UK tour, promoting his latest solo E.P.

Sunday 19th May 5pm Tim Royce and Steve Songi
Acoustic guitar & vocals plus double bass - country, folk, blues and ballads - mellow to rocking. Tim and Steve stamp their own unique sound onto a huge repertoire ranging from Elvis to Elton, James Taylor to Jimi, Simon & Garfunkel to the Stones, Nick Drake to Dylan, and loads more too numerous to fit in here... Why be anywhere else?

Thursday 23rd May 8.30pm Bicton Folk Night
Exmouth Shanty Man Derek Brooks invites you to join him for a traditional folk night, when a varied selection of singers, musicians and poets perform individually and as a group. If you sing or play why not come along and join in the session? Otherwise enjoy listening to a selection of varied and lively traditional acoustic music.
