Standard welcome email
Hello xxxxxx
Here are the relevant parts of the Welcome message I send to all new additions to our list:...
Many thanks for getting in touch. Please acknowledge receipt so I know I have the email address noted correctly. / Please tell me how you found out about the www.harbertonfolk.co.uk website / email circulation.
At the request of xxxxxx, I'll be pleased to add you to our email circulation list
for southern Devon folk information, covering an area extending about 30 miles from Totnes as the crow flies
in all landward directions. This is complemented by the website
www.harbertonfolk.co.uk
which features an open-ended Folk Diary listing all known folk concerts etc. for
the area, and also includes details of folk clubs, ceilidhs, pub sessions etc., plus recent Harberton Folk e-circulars.
All your information including the email address remains confidential - and of
course you can ask to be removed from the circulation at any time.
The email circulars are sent sometimes weekly, sometimes perhaps fortnightly, but never more than one per week (and never with any attachments), to 1400+ individual contacts. The Subject line will appear thus for example: hf61-70 120118, where the first group of characters is my address group reference (may change) and the second is the date of the circular.
Important notes (please do read):
1) If you have any problems with an e-circular you receive, do let me know.
2) If you unexpectedly stop receiving the e-circulars at any
time, all the information can always be found on
www.harbertonfolk.co.uk.
3) If you don't receive your first e-circular within a reasonable time frame,
again do
please let me know as a few internet service providers and larger organisations
may initially treat them as spam because of the way they are sent in semi-bulk
using Bcc: (Blind Carbon Copy) for confidentiality. They may be put in a Junk
folder (settings are usually
available to remedy this problem). Or our email address/domain name may be
erroneously blacklisted.
4) You may wish to include my sender's email address
johnculf@harbertondevon.co.uk
in your address book and/or email whitelist if appropriate.
Below the signature you'll find a collection of links that may be of interest. More can be found on the Harberton Folk website.
Best wishes
John Culf

Hotmail problems
I opened a Hotmail account myself a while back to help investigate possible
problems like this. Please try the following:
Open Hotmail
Click 'Options' at top right
Click 'Mail' at left (not the tab in the centre)
Click 'Junk E-Mail Protection'
Look through the various items here: See if I'm listed under 'Block Senders' for
any reason, and remove me if I am. Add me (johnculf@harbertondevon.co.uk) to the
Safe List.
See what the settings are under 'Junk E-Mail Filter' and 'Delete Junk E-Mail'.
If the latter is set to delete immediately, change it to the other option.
You may need to add my email address under 'Mailing Lists'.
Please note your current settings and any changes you make. I think it possible
other Hotmail account holders are also not receiving my circulars and if we can
investigate this together and sort it out it may help other people.
To all emailable Spiers & Boden ticket purchasers for the concert at the Ariel Centre in Totnes on Sat 2nd October
This concert sold out several weeks ago and we currently have a small waiting list. A number of returned tickets have already been resold. If you know now, or find out between now and concert date, that you have tickets which will not be used please do let me know soonest by email as there is a chance I will be able to resell those tickets (less a £2 per ticket handling charge). Refunds for successfully resold tickets will be made by cheque mailed as soon as practicable after the concert date.
For first-time visitors to the Ariel Centre (which is on the campus of King
Edward VI Community College in Totnes),
click here for a map. The site entrance, marked by brown 'Ariel Centre'
signs, is on the western side of the A385, right beside a large orange footbridge over
the main road, almost opposite a speed camera!
There is plenty of free parking on site. Please follow the directions of the
parking marshals in yellow waistcoats.
An area close to the venue entrance will be reserved for disabled parking.
Please ask a marshal if you need to use this.
Doors and bar(s) open at 6.45pm for a 7.30pm start.
The concert is all-seated.
Seating is unreserved (apart from special needs - please let us know if this
applies to you, and you haven't already told us), i.e. first come first served, many people will
therefore be arriving early and enjoying a drink from our two bars - in the auditorium - one for (mostly local organic) soft drinks
only, and the main bar also offering local real ale, Heron Valley cider
and Sharpham white wine etc., all at better than pub prices.
With a capacity audience of this size things will be 'cosy'. Please
help our stewards by not leaving empty seats in the middle of rows.
We have an excellent local support act - Geoff Lakeman's (father of Seth)
trio 'Unstrung Heroes' who are themselves building a strong local following.
The format for the evening is an approx. 25-min support set, then a
short turn-round interval when we will open the bars briefly for the late
arrivals and anyone desperate for a refill.
Then we have two approx. 45-min sets from Spiers & Boden, with the main
interval.
Finish time is therefore likely to be around 10.15pm.
Hello all emailable Hoover The Dog attendees:
Here's your reminder for, and further information about, the concert which
takes place this coming Saturday 14th November at the Ariel Centre (which is on
the campus of King Edward VI Community College) in Totnes.
There is plenty of parking on site.
An area close to the venue entrance will be reserved for disabled parking.
Please ask a marshal if you need to use this.
Doors and bar open at 7.15pm for an 8.00pm start. The bar will have all the
usual offerings.
The concert is all-seated, with unreserved seating, but as it was originally
intended to take place at the smaller venue of Harberton Parish Hall we will
have a modest sized audience in terms of the Ariel's larger capacity. In other
words, there's no need to arrive particularly early this time.
There is no support act.
The format for the evening is 2x approx. 45-min sets from Hoover, with an
interval. Finish time likely to be around 10pm.
Tickets for all Harberton Folk's future concerts (St Agnes
Fountain 6/12/09 [only 89 left], Aly Bain & Phil Cunningham 20/3/10, New
Rope String Band 20/4/10, Spiers & Boden 2/10/10) will be available at this
concert.
To all emailable New Rope String Band ticket purchasers for the concert at Harberton Parish Hall this Sat 17th April:
Now the general information for all:
The concert sold out recently and although we do not currently have a waiting list
we may receive requests for tickets during this week. If you know that you have tickets which will not be used, please let
me know (by email) as there is possibility we may be able to re-sell those tickets (less a £2
per ticket handling charge). Refunds for successfully resold tickets are made by cheque mailed as soon as practicable after the concert date.
For first-time visitors to Harberton Parish Hall, see
www.harbertonfolk.co.uk/hphhfolk.htm for a map and directions. There is
sufficient parking space on site for all vehicles expected, but please be aware
that about half the vehicles - mostly the smaller, lighter weight ones - will be
directed by the yellow-jacketed parking marshals to park on the grass on the
playing field. We will probably need to sort the cars for parking on hard
surface or otherwise to avoid damaging the grass surface unnecessarily, so
please follow the instructions of the marshals.
An area close to the venue entrance will be reserved for disabled parking.
Please let us know in advance if you need to use this, and mention this to the
marshal on arrival.
Doors and bar open at 6.45pm for a 7.30pm start.
The concert is all-seated. Approx. 10% of the audience will be children. The
Hall has full disabled facilities.
Seating is unreserved (apart from special needs - please let us know if this
applies to you, and you haven't already told us), i.e. first come first served, so
many people will be arriving early and enjoying a drink from our bar in the Hall -
with (mostly local organic) soft drinks
and local real ale, Heron Valley cider
and Sharpham white wine etc., all at better than pub prices.
There is no support act. The format for the evening is two sets from New Rope String Band, with a main interval. Finish time is likely to be somewhere between 9.30pm and 10pm.
