Following a request earlier today [30/12/15] to the Parish Clerk (from a resident concerned about rising levels on the River Harbourne in the Old Mill area on the back road to Harbertonford beyond East Leigh) for information about where to get hold of sandbags please find information from the South Hams District Council website below:
"Sand and sandbags can be purchased from your local Builders' Merchant, DIY store or Garden Centre.
The District Council holds a small supply of sandbags which are limited to 10 bags per household. However, this may be restricted during periods of high demand, extreme weather and flooding. These are usually available for collection free of charge from Council depots. Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00, excluding Bank Holidays. You should telephone 01803 861234 to check availability and location before travelling. We do not supply sandbags to businesses. If you are a business sand bags can be purchased from most builders merchants."
As the District Council telephone lines are closed for the Christmas holiday the Clerk today contacted the Emergency Team and has been informed that you are welcome to drop into the depot at Babbage Road to pick up bags. If you find that there are no sandbags at the industrial estate, you can call the emergency number 01803 867034 and a member of the emergency team will arrange a delivery to the depot.
The Totnes Depot is on the Babbage Road Industrial Estate, next to the Post Office depot, TQ9 5JE
More information about how you can prepare for flooding is
