The original Western Lodge was built around 1850 as one of two lodges to Tristford House, shown here:

Below, West Lodge "in context" October 1995, with a rainbow view to the west from upstairs, then an aerial view showing the 1.1-acre wood to the right (south) of the house prior to felling of most of the Japanese Larch which commenced in 1995 when we acquired the wood. Near the southern end of the wood you may be able to spot the light outline of the huge Monterey Pine which necessitated closing the lane for the day when it was felled.

Our "copse" extends to a point some 100 yards north (left) of the house, so basically the property is a very long (300 yards), narrow triangle.
